A busy summer for MindooDB and Haven - everything new since May

A lot has happened since our last blog post at the end of May - more than fits in a single article. So rather than one enormous post, I have written a short series, one topic at a time, and this is the map to all of it. Everything below is live in Haven today.

Here is the summer, at a glance:

  • Governance for teams: access control, policies and admin-blind keys. MindooDB always protected your data by encryption; now Haven Enterprise adds rules about who may create, change and delete what - recorded in the same tamper-evident history as the data, enforced honestly even when people are offline, and answerable long after the fact (“who could do what, and when?”). Haven Enterprise is in beta and unlocked with a license key; Haven Community stays the free, keyless base.

  • Instant answers across thousands of documents. Haven keeps a small, always-current summary of the searchable parts of your data, so filtering, sorting and grouping are instant - without unlocking every encrypted document. It even reaches across databases and across the boundary into a partner company’s tenant.

  • Search everything, including the paper on your desk. Real full-text search that runs privately on your device and finds words inside long documents and attachments - plus built-in text recognition (OCR) that makes scanned images and photos of paper searchable too, and a one-tap Quick-Scan button.

  • The Haven App Store. Browse apps with icons, screenshots and descriptions, and install one with a single click - just pick which tenant should hold its data. And Haven now speaks eight languages.

  • Mindoo TeamSketchbook. A new open-source, collaborative, multi-page drawing app for tablets and pens - where two people can draw in the same sketchbook and their strokes merge on the next sync.

  • Mindoo Teacher’s Desk. Our most complete app yet, and a commercial one: a teacher’s whole working day - timetable, planning, classes, grades, seating plans, materials, conversations - on data that stays encrypted and private. It ships in eight languages with a demo data set. It is also why we forked the collaborative Word-document editor and are now extending it ourselves, starting with editing on phones and tablets.

  • A faster sync, live updates, and paper recovery. A leaner new sync that moves less data, instant notifications and immediate push for real-time collaboration, a printable recovery sheet - a page of redundant QR codes behind a security question - that can rebuild your whole workspace even if every device is lost, and the ability to undelete documents (they can rise from the dead, more than once).

Pour yourself a coffee and pick whichever one you’re most curious about. Everything MindooDB and Haven is at mindoodb.com, and Haven Community is free to use for private and commercial projects at haven.mindoodb.com.
